Veena Schlegel
B.A. (English); B.Ed. (English); RSA Cambridge Celta Certificate

Veena taught English at a high school level and English as a foreign language to adult students for about 16 years. She specialised in teaching the Cambridge Certificate courses — FCE, CAE and Cambridge Proficiency — where emphasis is placed on a high level of grammatical accuracy. She is an experienced Cambridge examination marker of FCE English papers.

While teaching English in India, Japan, Australia, Italy and Switzerland she gained much experience in editing and re-writing different kinds of documents — from letters to whole books — written by people for whom English is a foreign language. To hone her editing skills she has taken three training courses offered by the SfEP (Society for Editors and Proofreaders).

Her fields of interest are: education, travel, spirituality (Osho, Zen, Buddhism), China, kung fu and tai chi.

She is currently a freelance editor in the UK.

Punya Kaufeler

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

Punya grew up in Milan, Italy. Because her parents were Swiss German she learnt to speak German as fluently as Italian.

Having lived for thirty-five years in English speaking countries and having passed the CPE examination (the highest Cambridge ESOL qualification in English proficiency) her English is almost as good as that of a native speaker. A large part of her career as a business administrator involved the use of her linguistic skills.

She is also a website designer and SEO specialist. Her experience in web design and in writing texts for websites and for SEO (search engine optimisation) is an additional asset to Song Mountain Editing as she can provide an insider’s expertise on how texts need to be written for the web.

She is the owner of punyaweb.net , a website design company in Glasgow, UK, which has a worldwide client base.

Yujie Zhao
M.Ed (English), TESOL

After graduating with a master’s degree in education, Yujie taught English at a private College of English Languages in China. She has recently left the College to focus on setting up a small cultural tours business organising specialised cultural tours for foreigners who want to explore China in depth.

Since her college days, however, she has been a translator — working in many different fields: articles, brochures, speeches and, most recently, technological manuals and marketing material. Her translation website (in Chinese and English) is: www.yzyiwen.cn

She is currently writing a book in English on the folk art of paper-cutting in her home town in Yu County, Hebei Province. She hopes this will be the first of a series of books on the many kinds of folk art in China. There is very little information about this genre in English so foreigners have few opportunities of accessing this rich cultural heritage.

Ibo Fei
B.A. (Industrial Computer Technology)

After graduating as an industrial computer designer, Ibo decided that this was, in fact, a rather boring career and decided to take some time out and pursue his passion for kung fu. Unexpectedly, it turned out that a different career started emerging – as a Chinese/ English translator at the Shaolin Wugulun Academy where he was studying kung fu.

He only studied English in high school but with the need for a translator for foreign kung fu students at the Academy his natural language ability meant that he was able to rapidly develop his English language skills, both in speaking and writing. He now works as a translator for kung fu students from all over the world.

He has recently translated texts into English (edited by Veena) for the Academy’s website – www.shaolinwugulun.com – and for a film script for an upcoming documentary about Wugulun kung fu.
